An investigation into Light and the Natural World

The earth’s tilt means that in Northern latitudes we have long days in summer and short days in winter. North of the Arctic Circle at times there is permanent day or permanent night. I have travelled many times to Scandinavia to experience this change in light, including Northern Finland in July 2005, winter 2007 and most recently Norway in winter 2013, Stockholm in June 2014, February 2015.

In winter 2015 I will travel to Western Norway to take up a residency at Kunstnarhuset Messen, Ålvik.

I propose a series of paintings based on light in darkness. Oil paint and colour pencil are my media, with photography being used for research.

Film and Perspective

Investigate film as a means of representing visual reality.

Chinese paintings can have multiple perspectives or viewpoints, as opposed to traditional one-point or two-point perspective. A Chinese  scroll will take the viewer into the painting, as if the viewer was walking through the landscape.
